Old-school PC gamers probably (well, some of you) remember Human Head Studios’ 2000 action-adventure game, Rune. Based on the Viking mythology of Ragnarok, Rune cast you as Ragnar, who battled Conrack and the Norse god, Loki. A feature of the game had you collecting runes to enhance your power. The game was pretty fun, but given its origins on PC, but was relegated to cult status.

Human Head has been trying for literal years to get a sequel off the ground, and now Rune 2 will finally see the light of day on November 12 via the Epic Games Store. There’s also a listing of the game on Steam, but given Epic’s exclusivity agreements, it looks as though the EGS will have first dibs. Rune 2 is available for pre-purchase now, and comes in three versions ranging from $30-$60 USD. An open beta test of the deathmatch and team deathmatch modes will run from September 20-22, which will expand into a free multiplayer demo through the EGS at some point.

The premise for Rune 2 has the player aligning with one of three Norse gods — Odin, Thor, or Hel — and set out on a quest to prevent Loki from destroying Midgard. You’ll also collect resources, discover artifacts that can weaken the Real Gate, and craft new and more powerful weapons. There will also be co-op play available.
